Garry Lee Posey
Garry is the founder and Producing Artistic Director for the Ensemble Theatre of Chattanooga. He is a Chattanooga native, graduating from East Ridge High School in 1994. He is a proud alumnus of the Chattanooga Little Theatre's Youth Theatre Program and an even prouder recipient of the James K Steakley Award for Outstanding Service to the Youth Theatre presented to Garry by one of his mentors and friends Rodney Van Valkenburg. Garry also participated in on the mainstage of The CLT and was awarded the Dan Jay Volunteer of the Year Award in 1994.
Garry earned his BA in Theatre from Catawba College where he successfully co-founded and managed a touring children's theatre troupe, worked tirelessly with his other mentor James "Parkie" Parker in the costume shop, stage managed and directed. After four years at Catawba, Garry was awarded the prestigious Florence Busby Corriher Award for Outstanding Achievement.
Following Catawba, Garry worked at the Mac-Haydn Theatre in Chatham, NY; the Mark II Dinner Theatre in Orlando, FL; Church Street Station in Orlando, FL; Walt Disney World- MGM Studios in Orlando, FL; Seaside Music Theatre in Daytona Beach, FL; Arena Stage in Washington D.C.; Gonzaga College High School in Washington, D.C.; The Alabama Shakespeare Festival in Montgomery AL; The Chattanooga Theatre Centre in Chattanooga, TN; North Shore Music Theatre in Beverly, MA; Oxford Shakespeare Festival in Oxford, MS; and Te Ata World Premier in Chickasha, OK.
Garry, with the help of the Leighton F Ballew Award from the Southeastern Theatre Conference, earned his MFA in Directing from the University of Mississippi where he successfully produced three ten-minute play festivals and a one-act musical, as well as directed (obviously), designed costumes, performed and taught.
Since receiving his MFA in May 2006, Garry has returned to Chattanooga to teach in the Professional Actor Training Program at Chattanooga State Technical Community College. In his three years here, Garry has created and managed a summer theatre festival, directed, designed and built scenery and taught acting and production. He lives in his house in downtown Chattanooga, which he was able to purchase thanks to a generous grant from Allied Arts, CreateHere and the Lyndhurst Foundation as a recipient of the ArtsMove program. He is accompanied by his lovely Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, Silas Shakespeare.
